    Excellence in education is a top priority in the Hartsville community. Numerous programs supported by business and industry provide additional opportunities for students at all levels to excel. Our local schools have received numerous awards for outstanding achievement, academic standards and merit. Hartsville is home to nationally-ranked Coker College and the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics.     • For parents interested in homeschooling, Hartsville Home Educators (HHE) creates a community for support, information and encouragement for those interested in homeschooling. Through field trips, seasonal activities and cooperative learning resources offered by HHE, children interact together in a number of social settings.

    TEACH Foundation

    • The TEACH Foundation is a not for profit, 501(c)(3) organization that serves as the administration arm for the PULSE initiative which includes accelerated learning programs at Hartsville High School, students living in Hartsville attending Mayo High School and the Comer School Development Program in four area elementary schools.
    • PULSE stands for Partners for Unparalleled Local Scholastic Excellence. This one-of-kind public-private partnership has been formed to implement a comprehensive scholastic excellence program in Hartsville public schools that expands curriculum opportunities and further improves student achievement through collaborative academic and social development initiatives. The partners include Darlington County School District, the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM), Coker College and Sonoco. Sonoco is funding the initiative through a $5 million grant that will be paid over five years.
