Thomas Hart house at Kalmia Gardens.Kalmia Gardens is a 35-acre private botanical garden and historic house on a former 19th century plantation that is open to the public. The Thomas E. Hart House, built in 1820 with timber cut from the property, and surrounding gardens are on the National Register of Historic Places. Open during daylight hours. 1624 W. Carolina Ave. 843-383-8145.

Boardwalk through the nature areas of Kalmia Gardens.Segars-McKinnon Heritage Preserve is 795-acres and a showcase for vegetation in its natural state. It occupies the floodplain and upland on the north side of Black Creek and provides habitat for 6 rare plant species and 4 rare plant communities. A footbridge across Black Creek connects the preserve with Kalmia Gardens, a botanical complex in Hartsville. W. Carolina Ave.

Playing soccer at the new Byerly Park recreation complex.Byerly Park is a multi-use recreation complex. It has 6 soccer fields, 2 football fields, horseshoe pits, 6 tennis courts, a 1.2 mile walking/jogging/biking trail, plus 4 softball/baseball fields an eight-lane track and field facility, and 2 playgrounds. Future plans call for the addition of a four-field youth complex, and a multi-use gymnasium. 700 Russell Rd. 843-339-2878.

YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee - Hartsville BranchYMCA of the Upper Pee Dee Hartsville is located downtown in a two-story former department store listed in the National Historic Register. The clubhouse at Hartsville Country Club.Hartsville Country Club offers a championship 18-hole golf course. The original 9 holes were built in 1926 and was one of of the top 9-hole courses in SC. In 1960 the back 9 was built. In 1995, golf legend Tom Watson redesigned 5 holes on the back nine. Prestwood Country Club sits on the shores of Prestwood Lake.Prestwood Country Club was established in 1914 and is located on the outskirts of the city, nestled in one of Hartsville's oldest residential neighborhoods along the shores of Prestwood Lake. Outdoor facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, picnic area, children's playground and nature trails.
