    To Speak

Lydia, SC – David Beasley, former South Carolina Governor and current Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) will speak at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church (Lydia) on Friday, May 7th, 2021 at 5:30 p.m.

Governor Beasley accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the WFP in December 2020. Beasley, a Darlington County native, has headed the WFP since 2017. The Nobel Prize Committee awarded the Peace Prize to the WFP because of its “efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.” Prior to leading the WFP Beasley represented Darlington County in the South Carolina General Assembly, served as governor of South Carolina from 1995 – 1999 and was awarded the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2003.

At the conclusion of Governor Beasley’s presentation a chicken bog prepared by Oliver Segars will be served. All donations received will go to benefit the WFP.
