Good Morning! As we continue to track Tropical Storm Isaias, I wanted to provide you with additional updates.
    Weather
Tropical Storm Isaias is gradually re-strengthening offshore the northeast coast of Florida and east coast of Georgia as radar indicates an eye-wall is emerging. The National Hurricane Center projects Isaias to re-intensify to a Category 1 hurricane prior to landfall projected near Sunset Beach to Ocean Isle Beach around midnight. Global models do indicate the storm may trend a bit farther west interacting with the upper coast of South Carolina, perhaps making landfall prior to the SC/NC coastal border.

As a reminder, the National Weather Service is your official weather provider. Additional maps and information can be found at nhc.noaa.gov.

    COVID Safety Precautions
We’re carefully monitoring the storm, assembling our crews and preparing to repair any damage or outages as quickly as possible, while observing all COVID-19 safety precautions. If you see our field personnel at work, please remember they will be focused on restoring power as efficiently as possible and maintaining distance from their work zones helps to keep everyone safe. Check out this story about how we are keeping crews safe during restoration efforts.
Tropical force winds and employee safety
As we begin to feel the impacts of Tropical Storm Isaias, we want to highlight our company’s focus on employee safety. Duke Energy line technicians do not perform elevated work in bucket trucks when wind speeds are 35 miles per hour or greater. We will cease traveling in all vehicles or working, including climbing, when sustained winds reach tropical storm force wind velocity – 39 mph. We want to avoid unsafe working conditions that could lead to emergency management having to help us and risk their own employee’s safety.
    Avoid downed power lines:
Always assume downed lines are energized, and stay away. Also, remember that power lines can be hidden by debris and standing water so use extreme caution in damaged areas.
