Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I am writing to introduce myself to you. My name is Tony Adams. I have been appointed by Bishop Jonathan Holston to serve as your pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church. I will begin ministry with you on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 30th. I am excited to be following Rev. Steve Gaither and building on his service and ministry with you.

I grew up in Bowling Green, SC, a small community just outside of Clover. I attended school in Clover from kindergarten all the way through high school. After graduating Clover High, I attended York Technical College and transferred to Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. From there I received a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education. Three years following graduation from PC, I began classes at Erskine Theological Seminary and received a Master of Divinity in 1997. While attending Erskine, I served as Program Director at Broad Street UMC in Clinton then was appointed just down the road to serve two churches in Joanna, SC. Following ministry there, I have served in Lancaster, Indian Land, Aynor, and Rock Hill. I am in my 27th year of ministry and am looking forward to having the opportunity to live and grow and serve in Hartsville.

I am the oldest of four children. I am the proud uncle of 14 nieces and nephews and four great-nephews and one great-niece. And she is great.

I will be arriving at the parsonage on the afternoon of June 30th. I am looking forward to meeting you all and joining with you on the mission in making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. When we meet each other, I am sure that it will be from a distance. You have a Task Force in place who is discerning guidelines on the best and safest way to reopen. I am praying for you in that process and in this time of pastoral transition. I am thankful for the ministry and leadership that Pastor Steve has had with you. I pray for him as he moves to a new place of service. I pray for you as well as you say farewell to your pastor and as you look to the future where being the church certainly is different from what we are accustomed to seeing. I believe that in life’s changes God is with us and will see us through. Jesus himself said, “Do not be afraid, I am with you, even to the end.” I am thankful for his words.

    Blessings and Peace,
    Pastor Tony Adams
