              South Carolina Governor's School for Science & Mathematics to Host Virtual Events for Prospective Students


              Hartsville, SC - The Governor's School for Science & Mathematics (GSSM) is hosting Preview Days, Shadow Days, Ambassador Q+A sessions, and Find Your Element sessions this fall for prospective high school sophomores and their families. To attend any or all of these events, students should register online at www.scgssm.org/visit.
               
              Preview Day is a virtual open house event that will provide prospective students and parents with a chance to meet faculty, staff, and current students who will guide you through what it means to be a Govie. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions, take a virtual tour of GSSM, and learn more about life at GSSM.
              • When: 11/14 and 12/5
              • Time: 10 AM - 12 PM

              Shadow Day is an opportunity for prospective 9th and 10th-grade students to learn more about GSSM during the academic week. We are offering virtual Shadow Days to students who have completed or will complete the student portion of the application during the 2020-2021 academic school year. Students will get to virtually shadow a GSSM student to get a real hands-on experience of life as a Govie.

              Ambassador Q+A is an opportunity to get insight from a current Govie. Join our Ambassadors for a Facebook live Q&A session to learn more about what makes GSSM an opportunity of a lifetime.

              Find Your Element: Virtual Tour of GSSM & Information Sessions gives you the chance to take a virtual tour of GSSM. Learn about the exciting opportunities that make GSSM like no other. GSSM provides a rigorous, impactful, and immersive STEM education with infinite possibilities. Our Enrollment Counselor will host the session to share important information followed by an Ambassador led tour and interactive Q&A.

              GSSM is a tuition-free, two-year, public, residential high school specializing in the advanced study of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Beyond its distinctive curriculum, GSSM offers unique learning opportunities, including the nationally recognized Summer Program for Research Interns (SPRI), the Research Experience Scholars Program (RESP), and January Interim. These innovative programs provide mentored graduate-level internships, international travel experiences, and options to explore non-traditional courses. 
               
              GSSM Residential applicants should be current South Carolina residents, current high school sophomores, have at least 10.5 high school credits before the end of the 2020-2021 school year, including Geometry, Algebra I and II, English I and II, a social studies course, and a lab science course.
