WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR SILVER LININGS

As we enter the season of thanks giving, we find ourselves reflecting on the many silver linings we have discovered during this most challenging year. We are most grateful for all the lessons learned during this global pandemic, for the students who went virtual with us back in March, and for the 39 middle and high school students who, since September, have been actively participating in the outdoor Youth Leadership Program after school twice-a-week. We are grateful for our abundance of outdoor space and the willingness of our students to respect COVID safety protocols in an effort to stop the spread.  As one student put it,

"I'm grateful that people are willing to wear masks and stay safe so I can still do things that are fun during COVID." Jasmine, 6th grade

We are grateful for YOU and the Hartsville and Darlington County communities for investing in Positive Youth Development by supporting our programs, our organization, and our special events. Our students are your future workforce and our future community leaders...and they are worth the investment.

As a Cypress board member recently pointed out:

"Every time I meet one of our students, I am struck by how open and friendly they are and by how much they actually care about our community." Cheryl, Board Member

That's the impact of life skill and leadership development

    during the most formative years!

    Outdoor Adventure

A total of 33 students between two groups enjoyed a beautiful hike at Crowders Mountain State Park this month. We even got to see the fall colors and the city of Charlotte from up high! Even though we can't go camping as usual, our students got to experience the power of nature to heal stress and anxiety!

Research correlates health benefits with exposure to natural environments. Hiking has been found to reduce stress and anxiety, boost self-esteem, and release endorphins.
