    Job Description

    Cypress Adventures, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to foster Positive Youth Development during out-of-school time. We use experiential education, outdoor adventure, peer mentoring, and service learning to meet the unique developmental needs of middle and high school aged youth through after-school and summer programs.

    Cypress Adventures was founded in 2015 and has served close to 1000 students through the Youth Leadership Program. 

    We are seeking a responsible, energetic and creative person who is excited to share their knowledge, leadership, and passion for learning with youth (and our growing organization) by serving as Program Assistant for our youth programs. 

    This part-time/seasonal position will assist the Program Coordinators in ensuring quality implementation of our youth programs and to create and foster an inclusive group culture and learning environment among students, their families and co-workers.

    ABOUT OUR YOUTH PROGRAMS

    The Youth Leadership Program (YLP) provides Positive Youth Development for adolescents during out-of-school time. YLP serves diverse groups of 20 students (1/2 high school, 1/2 middle school) each school semester (4 groups per school year). Each group meets twice-a-week after school. Working hours are typically from 2:00pm - 7:00pm on Monday - Thursday. 

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    Program Assistant reports to the Program Coordinator and is responsible to provide support for the implementation of Cypress youth programs.

    TIME/WAGE: part-time, seasonal - $18 per hour

    SpecIfic Responsibilities & duties

    • Maintain awareness and understanding of all Cypress policies and procedures related to staff protocol, safety, and program implementation and administration
    • Support the implementation of after-school, experiential learning activities in accordance with Cypress program design, policies and procedures
    • Closely supervise students and ensure they have a physically and emotionally safe environment at all times
    • Demonstrate interactions with parents and youth in a professional manner and in accordance with Cypress program policies and procedures
    • Model healthy communication and relationship building with youth
    • Appropriately and responsibly coordinate student conflict management with group facilitators
    • Maintain awareness and understanding of all potential health concerns identified on youth paperwork
    • Practice effective time management to perform duties and help keep activities on schedule
    • Regular participation in staff feedback sessions to include giving and receiving feedback; recognizing and verbalizing strengths and areas for improvement regarding work performance
    • Perform other duties related to program as determined by Program Director including, and not limited to, assisting in facilitation of other Cypress programs and activities; assisting in equipment maintenance; etc.

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Personable and flexible, with a team-based, customer service mindset
    • Track record of continuous process improvement and operational excellence
    • Able to think strategically and execute tactically
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs in front country and backcountry settings
    • Willingness to work after-school hours and weekends
