Hartsville, SC- Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, through the generosity of its partnering sponsor, The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), hosted its second annual Jumpstart Your Heart 5K as a virtual event and had approximately 190 participants. The event began on Saturday, September 12 and participants had until Saturday, September 19 to complete the 5K.

The 5K committee hosted competitions for participants to make the event more exciting. The four different competition categories consisted of the best homemade finish line, best running costume, best Carolina Pines spirit wear and the best jumping photo. To enter the competition, individuals had to post their photos on social media and tag Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. Winners from each category received $25 in Hartsville Dollars that are redeemable at many local businesses.

Proceeds from the event will be used to support our local schools by purchasing portable automated external defibrillators (AEDs). With the money raised, the Jumpstart Your Heart 5K committee was able to purchase 7 AEDs for the following local schools: Hartsville High School, Hartsville Middle School, McBee High School, Darlington High School, Chesterfield High School and Cheraw High School.

“We are honored to be able to give back to our community using the funds raised from this year’s event. We are so thankful to all who made the event such a great success. We could not have done it without our sponsors and participants who continue to support us year after year and assist us in advancing our mission of Making Communities Healthier,” said Jumpstart Your Heart 5K Race Director, Brendan Burns.
