  • Coker University Athletics Announces Staff Additions for 2020-21

    August 10, 2020 HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University athletic department has released staff additions for the 2020-21 year, announced today (Monday, Aug. 10).
     
    Kaitlyn Miller | Acrobatics & Tumbling | Assistant Coach
     
    Miller joined the Coker University Acrobatics & Tumbling coaching staff in August of 2020. 
    Miller comes to Hartsville after a four-year career on the Gannon University Acro team. While at Gannon, she was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as a representative for Acro. During her involvement with SAAC, she led a University Make-A-Wish project that raised over $10,000. She also helped her team raise over $12,000 as the fundraising chair for a separate Make-A-Wish project. 
    She most recently served as the Gymnastics Coach at Berks East Gymnastics, where she coached and instructed kids in a wide variety of grade levels and at a wide variety of skill levels. 
    The Spring City, Pa. native graduated from Gannon University in 2020 with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology, and will be working toward a Master's of Science in College Athletic Administration. 
     
    Sarah White | Women's Lacrosse | Assistant Coach
     
    White joined the Coker University women's lacrosse staff in August 2020. 
    White comes from Alderson Broaddus, where she was a member of the women's lacrosse team. She was a Great Midwest Athletic Conference Honorable Mention selection in 2018, and served as Team Captain for the 2019 season. Off the field, she was involved on campus as a FriendlyU Student Ambassador and as a Freshman Orientation Leader. Academically, she was a member of the Dean's List, Honor Roll and President's List. She received the Exercise Science Academic Achievement Award, and the Greek Academic Achievement Award for Women's Organizations on campus. she was also a GMAC Academic All-Conference selection. During her time at AB, she was also involved in a lot of community service, including time with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. 
    White graduated from Alderson Broaddus in 2019 with a Bachelor's of Science in Exercise Science, with minors in Psychology, Strength Training and Conditioning and Athletic Coaching. She is pursuing her Master's of Science in College Athletic Administration at Coker. 
     
    Caterra Barkins '20 | Assistant Coach | Men's/Women's Track and Field
     
    Caterra Barkins '20 returned to her alma mater as an Assistant Track and Field in August of 2020. 
    A four-year member and three-year Team Captain for the Cobras women's track and field team, Barkins holds the program's outdoor records in the shot put (10.63m) and the discus throw (34.42m). 
    Barkins graduated from Coker in May 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology, and is currently pursuing a Master's of Science in College Athletic Administration. 
     
    Brian Vutianitis | Wrestling | Assistant Coach
     
    Brian Vutianitis is entering his first season as an Assistant Coach at Coker University. 
    During the last two seasons, Vutianitis was the Head Coach at the State University of New York at Ulster CC. Vutianitis coached the team to two runner-up finishes in the Region XV Invitational. Vutianitis went on to coach eight of his wrestlers to Top 4 finishes at the District tournament, sending two of those wrestlers to the District finals and qualifying seven of them for the NJCAA national tournament. Vutianitis also became the first wrestling coach in SUNY Ulster history to have a wrestler win multiple matches at the NJCAA tournament. During his two seasons with the Senators, the team consisted of seven Academic All-Conference athletes with two of those athletes earning Academic All-Region Honors.
    In 2018-19, Vutianitis entered his first year as the Head Wrestling Coach for the Senators. Coach Vutianitis spent the two seasons prior as a varsity Assistant Coach at Warwick Valley High School where he assisted in coaching 13 sectional place winners and one NYS Champion. Vutianitis took over Ulster Wrestling as they entered their third season back on the mat after a 37-year hiatus when the program was cut in 1979. 
    In addition to his coaching duties, Vutianitis is also the club President and founder of Vision Wrestling Club. Vision is a wrestling club that is home to many top level wrestlers throughout the Section IX area of New York. Vision Wrestling Club's mission is to expand upon the wrestling community of the Hudson Valley area by working with both small school and large school athletes as a whole. In his four-year stint with Vision Wrestling club, he coached three NYS Finalists and two NYS Champions, 14 Wrestlers to All- State honors and 18 Section IX Champions. The Vision Wrestling Barn is currently the local training facility for wrestlers who attend multiple collegiate wrestling programs including The Ohio State University and University of Michigan (NCAA DI), Queens University of Charlotte (NCAA DII), Coker University, Ithaca College and Johnson & Wales University (NCAA DIII) and more.
    Coach Vutianitis started his wrestling career in New York at Warwick Valley High School, where he was a team and individual Section IX champion and state qualifier in 2011. After high school, Brian continued his wrestling career at NCAA DIII SUNY Cortland. During his time at SUNY Cortland, Brian was a part of a team that won the Empire Conference title in 2012 before winning two Northeast Regional titles in 2013 and 2014. During the 2014 Season Brian was All-Conference in the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships along with being part of a team that finished fourth at the NWCA National Duals. During his final season at SUNY Cortland, Brian was named Team Captain and helped the Red Dragons to a sixth-place finish at the NWCA National Duals. 
    Brian is a 2016 graduate of SUNY Cortland with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology.
     
    Erin Indermill | Volleyball | Assistant Coach
     
    Erin Indermill joined the Coker University volleyball staff in August 2020. 
    Indermill comes to Hartsville from the club coaching ranks, where she was most recently an assistant coach for the Legacy Volleyball Club. 
    Indermill was a Division I student-athlete at California State University, Northridge, where she was a member of the volleyball and beach volleyball teams. She was a four-time member of the Big West Conference All-Academic Team, and also a two-year team captain. As team captain, she was responsible for assisting in the coordination of team meals, team bonding and itineraries. She was also named to the Big West Conference All-Academic Team for beach volleyball. She was CSUN's nominee for the Big West Service and Leadership Award, and also an executive board member in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She served as the community service representative from 2016-17, while serving as Co-President from 2017-19. She was also involved in the Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Council. 
    She was also a student assistant for the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Performance and Student-Athlete Wellness. 
    The Santa Clarita, Calif. native holds a Bachelor's of Arts in Mathematics from CSUN, and is pursuing a Master's of Science in College Athletic Administration at Coker.
