Music soaked in the spirits of the Jazz Age, competing narratives of Zelda and Scott’s past, and a dollop of dark humor all collide in a Black Mirror-like plot twist. The Ghosts of Gatsby is an operatic tribute to the demands of madness, art, and love. Directed by Dr. Christi McLain and conducted by Dr. Jerron Jorgensen, performances will be held in Drengaelen House at Coker University on November 19th & 20th at 7:30 p.m. Masks are mandatory for all audience members. Nov. 15, 2021. Coker University welcomes Ephrat Asherie Dance Company to Hartsville! Ephrat Asherie Dance will perform on Nov. 15th at 7:30pm in the Watson Theater on the campus of Coker University. Admission is free with a Coker ID, $10 students/seniors, and $25 general admission. While in Hartsville, Ephrat Asherie Dance will perform Odeon (2018). Odeon, an original dance work for seven dancers and four musicians, is the second collaboration between sister and brother team Ephrat and Ehud Asherie (choreographer and musical director, respectively). Set to the music of Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth, known for mixing early 20th century romantic music with samba and popular Afro-Brazilian rhythms, this work takes a hybrid approach to movement. Odeon delves into what happens when you bring together the extended family of street and club dances--including breaking, hip-hop, house and vogue--remix them, pick them apart and challenge them to inhabit unfamiliar spatial and choreographic contexts. This residency and performance is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. For More Information Visit
