Summertime is here, and that means spending a lot more time outdoors. But summer also means more thunderstorms and lightning. June 21st – 27th is Lightning Safety Awareness Week. Its purpose is to educate and raise awareness about the hazards of lightning to lower the number of deaths and injuries caused by lightning strikes. So, check weather forecasts daily, cancel or postpone outdoor activities if thunderstorms develop, and remember these other important tips for your safety:
    - If you can hear thunder, you are within striking distance. Seek safe shelter immediately.
    - “When thunder roars, go indoors” and stay there until 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder.
    - Don’t wait for the rain to start before you decide to seek shelter, and don’t leave shelter just because the rain has ended.
